Where are you, God?
It's a question many of us ask as we struggle to deal with this divisive president.
Dearly beloved of God:
This is a question many of us ask. Where is God? This devotional message seeks to answer that question. I pray that, amid the hatred and division in the current political climate in the United States, you will find comfort and assurance that God will not leave you alone. Although it may not seem like it right now, I believe that as the clock ticks closer to the midterms, you will see the hand of God at work as President Trump’s arrogance will mark the downfall of him and all in his administration who have broken criminal law, committed war crimes, and failed in their duty to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution. Please share it with anyone you think would benefit from it.
Where are you, God?
It’s a question many of us ask.
In a world filled with hate and division, it often feels like God has left us alone.
Ignorance breeds contempt. Some political leaders, like President Trump, claim, “This will make America great again,” while spreading messages that divide rather than unite. Vice President J.D. Vance explains it not as hate, but as choosing the order in which we love others. Yet this selective love can lead to policies that hurt vulnerable people—immigrants deemed illegal, many ending up in brutal prisons like CECOT in El Salvador.
So, where is God in all of this?
Why does He allow hate and suffering to continue?
Could He not simply make us all love one another?
Yes, He could. But He chooses not to. Instead, He gives us the freedom to choose love or hate. It has to be a conscious decision we make every day.
I believe God is far more patient with us than we often are with ourselves or others.
He wants us to come to the truth on our own. If we ask Him, He can help us do what seems impossible. He possesses the ability to fill our hearts with love for those we find hard to love.
Think back to the games you played as a child. For me, it was building houses with wooden blocks. I had to be careful to place the blocks evenly—too many on one side, and the whole structure would collapse.
Our hearts are like those blocks. If hate outweighs love, the entire structure caves in.
Beyond economic or political troubles, we face a deeper spiritual bankruptcy.
We wonder where God is, yet we spend less and less time with Him. We make constant withdrawals from our “love account” but expect it to remain full.
How can we change the tide of hate without love?
What if God said, “I’ve had enough of this creation I made. You’re on your own?”
That thought is devastating—a true feeling of abandonment.
But Scripture offers a different picture. Listen to these words from Psalm 103:8-12 (NIV):
“The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
slow to anger, abounding in love.
He will not always accuse,
nor will he harbor his anger forever;
he does not treat us as our sins deserve
or repay us according to our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his love for those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west,
so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”
Read these promises again and again. Let them sink deep into your mind and spirit.
When you wonder where God is, come back to these truths. They speak to God’s endless love for you and me.
When it feels like those who spread hate are winning, know this in your heart: they are not.
God’s love shines eternally; hate burns itself out.
God is compassionate to all. The enemy deceives us into believing he loves us, but his love is a lie.
Darkness traps like a spider’s web, but God draws us in with tender arms of mercy.
Mercy gives; hate only takes.
God desires peace among us. He wants us to resolve our differences.
If the enemy tells you God is absent, like an absentee father, don’t believe that lie.
God never leaves you alone.
He is as close as a thought, a whispered prayer, a cry in the lonely night.
In your darkest moments, when hope flickers like a candle, God sees the way out.
Reach out.
Let yourself be cradled in His tender arms.
He is Abba Father—Daddy.
Oh, how He loves you with an everlasting love!
God loves you even when you don’t trust Him to. When you come to Him with open hands to receive His love, He can give you so much more of it.
You will have questions. You may yell at God.
He can take it. His shoulders are broad.
Don’t listen to the haters; pray for them.
Let God show you where He is.
He may not answer all your “why” questions, but never doubt His unending love.
As high as the heavens, so is His love for you.
