Higher Ground
How do we get there?
Father, how do we get to higher ground?
We get depressed by the news we read and see.
More hate.
More war.
More division.
More injustice.
More violence.
Ever-increasing inhumanity.
Lord, we cry out to You for help in our time of trouble.
Let us not be blindsided.
It may seem like darkness is winning, but that’s a lie.
This is why.
We can be a part of positive change.
It may sound too simple; it isn’t.
It requires a change of attitude.
Despite the chaos created by those who follow the enemy of our souls, we can still take action.
With God’s love in us, we can add more love, peace, unity, and justice and participate in protests without violence.
The path of love is a tough one.
Remember what they did to God’s one and only Son.
He was wounded and crucified for our sins.
The world doesn’t offer lasting peace; only God does.
We can choose either the higher ground of compassion or the lower one of hate and a mediocre faith that straddles loving others and the ways of this world.
Father, show us how to reach higher ground.
Amen.
